New Director – Press Release

Fr. Charles Michael Grech, ofm joins Radio Maria Canada as new director

to build on expanded programming, new English station and legacy of directors,

Fr. Augusto Menichelli and Prof. Luigi Pautasso

TORONTO, (JUNE 27, 2017) – Radio Maria Canada welcomes Fr. Charles Michael Grech, ofm as its newest director, effective July 1, 2017. Fr. Grech joins the radio ministry after a long history of service that includes leadership positions in his community, the Franciscan friars of St. Paul the Apostle Province, Malta, as well as work in education, with the elderly, youth and the terminally ill.

“I am thrilled to work with the volunteers and staff who earnestly put all their energy to ensure the station runs smoothly and provides our listeners with a needed ministry,” says Fr. Grech. “I come to continue building on what those before me have established with great dedication and sacrifices, which has resulted in what we see around us.”

Founded in 1995, thanks to heroic courage and dedication of Prof. Luigi Pautasso, Radio Maria Canada has remained a strong force in the lives of its Italian-speaking and, increasingly, English-speaking listeners. In the past few years, under the leadership of its founder and Fr. Augusto Menichelli, director, July 2015 to June 2017, the online, new English language channel was launched, revamped its website and launched a new app while maintaining its Italian programming. The English language program schedule includes new programs that discuss spiritual matters, catechesis, family life, biblical study, legal, financial and health matters, devotional prayers and the prayers of the Church. The Italian channel features a variety of programs that are streamed directly from Italy.

Part of World Family of Radio Maria, Radio Maria Canada has as its mission, like Mary, to bring Jesus to the world through social communication. The station maintains its operations thanks to the generosity of its more than 4000 annual donors and volunteers in Toronto and Montreal. The main objective and principle vision is to bring Radio Maria across Canada.

“Spreading hope and the Gospel is more important than ever,” says Fr. Grech. “Radio Maria Canada is a Church-wide project, realized only with the prayers, talents, time and resources of our family of Canadian supporters. We appreciate their help and, candidly, need them more than ever. It’s their project as well as ours.”
